Fiber optic isolator is a device used in fiber optic communication systems whose main function is to prevent the reverse propagation of optical signals. It utilizes the polarization properties and nonlinear effects of light to achieve unidirectional propagation, and is often used at the output of lasers to protect lasers or other optical components from the effects of reverse optical signals. Reverse optical signals may interfere with or damage the light source or other system components, resulting in performance degradation.
