A new 3kW air-cooled single-mode fiber laser has been delivered to our European customer.

Key specifications:

• Cooling: Air-cooled
• Fiber Core: 14 μm

While many fiber lasers on the market use 20 μm delivery fibers, this system was specially customized with a 14 μm fiber core to meet the customer’s application requirements.

From an engineering perspective, both 14 μm and 20 μm fiber cores can achieve excellent beam quality (M² < 1.3). However, reducing the fiber core diameter significantly increases the technical challenges, especially for high-power air-cooled laser systems.

A smaller core demands:

✔ More precise optical design
✔ Better mode control
✔ Stricter thermal management
✔ Higher assembly accuracy and manufacturing consistency

More importantly, the benefits go beyond specifications.

A 14 μm fiber core enables higher power density and brightness, making it ideal for applications requiring extremely fine processing, narrow kerf cutting, high-precision welding, and superior energy concentration. These advantages cannot always be achieved with larger-core fibers.
